The Organizing Committee is pleased to announce a Student Poster Contest.

  • 1st place award of $500
  • 3 runner-up awards of $100 each

To be eligible, the first or presenting author must be a student currently enrolled at an academic institute. For more information contact Dr. Simon Jones, Simon.Jones@dfo-mpo.gc.ca.

Graduate students are an important part of the International Sea Lice conferences and as such are encouraged to attend and present their research at the 8th International Sea Lice conference in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, May 9-12, 2010.

The conference organizing committee expects to disperse a number of $250 and $500 awards provided by sponsors to approved PhD and MSc students to offset travel costs. Awards will be provided according to need and quality of presentation. Students will need to pay for conference expenses up front as awards will be made at a later time. The number of awards will be dependent on funds raised at the time of the meeting.

To be considered for a bursary, a student must demonstrate a need for financial support and make a contribution to the conference program of either an oral or poster presentation.

Students applying must submit an abstract and have it accepted for the conference program prior to being considered for a bursary. Abstracts must be received prior to the January 8, 2010 submission deadline and meet all conditions as outlined in the abstract submission requirements. All abstracts will be peer reviewed prior to being accepted for the conference program.

Bursary funds may be applied to registration, travel and accommodation related to the Sea Lice 2010 conference only.

Applications will be reviewed and ranked according to the following criteria.

  1. Applicant is currently enrolled in a university PhD or MSc program and is actively involved in research as per the abstract submitted.
  2. Applicant abstract is approved by the Scientific Review Committee for acceptance in the conference program either as an oral or poster presentation.
  3. Applicant provides a clear and demonstrated need for financial support to attend the conference.
  4. Applicant abstract and presentation are of high quality on a relevant topic.
